I Used the Ford F-150 Lightning for 7 Days – Here’s What No One Tells You

Electric vehicles (EVs) are growing fast. But an electric pickup truck? That’s something special. I got to use the Ford F-150 Lightning for one week, and wow—what a ride! In this blog, I’ll tell you what it was like. From the first time I sat behind the wheel to charging it at night. All in simple words, just like talking to a friend.

Let’s begin with my Ford F-150 Lightning week-long adventure!

🚘 First Ride: It Feels Big but Smooth

The first time I saw the Ford F-150 Lightning, I thought, “This thing is huge!” It looks just like the regular F-150, but with a more modern and cleaner face. No big front grill, just a sleek light bar and closed-off front.

Getting inside was easy. The seats were big, soft, and comfy. The touchscreen in the middle was massive—15.5 inches! It felt like a computer inside a truck.

I pressed the start button. No engine sound. Just silence. That’s new for a truck.

Then I started driving. The first ride was surprisingly smooth. Even though it’s a big truck, it felt light and easy to handle. Turning, braking, and driving around town felt good. Not scary or heavy.

⚡ Battery and Range: More Than I Expected

My F-150 Lightning had the Extended Range Battery, which gives you up to 320 miles on a full charge. That’s a lot!

I started the week with 100% battery. I drove to the grocery store, picked up my cousin from college, and even helped a friend move a couch—all in the first two days.

By the end of Day 2, I still had over 60% battery left.

On Day 3, I took it on the highway for a longer trip—about 100 miles round-trip. The truck stayed quiet, strong, and used about 30% of the battery.

So yes, the range is real. And even after a full week of normal driving, shopping, errands, and a little road trip, I never felt like I’d run out of power.

🛻 Driving Experience: Fast, Silent, Powerful

Let’s talk about how the F-150 Lightning drives.

🚀 It’s Fast!

Even though it’s a big truck, this thing is a rocket! It goes from 0 to 60 mph in about 4 seconds. That’s sports car speed. I tapped the pedal, and it just took off.

I surprised a few people at stoplights 😄.

🔇 So Quiet!

There’s no engine noise. Just peace. Even when I drove fast, it was super quiet inside. That makes phone calls, music, or even just relaxing so much better.

🚙 Easy Controls

You don’t have to “shift gears.” You just drive. The big touchscreen lets you control everything—music, maps, even how the truck behaves. You can choose modes like “Normal,” “Sport,” or “Tow/Haul.”

I used Normal mode most of the time. It was perfect for daily driving.

🛠️ It Can Work Hard Too

Yes, it’s fun to drive. But it’s still a real truck. I put some wood in the back one day to help my neighbor. The truck didn’t even flinch. It felt stable, strong, and balanced.

🔌 Charging the F-150 Lightning: Not as Hard as I Thought

I was worried about charging at first. It’s a big truck. That means a big battery. I thought it would take forever to charge.

But here’s what I learned.

🏠 Home Charging (Level 2)

I used a Level 2 charger at home (240V wall charger). It took about 8–10 hours to fully charge from 15% to 100%.

That may sound like a lot, but I plugged it in at night and it was full by morning. Just like charging your phone.

⚡ Public Charging (DC Fast Charging)

One day, I used a DC fast charger at a public station. In about 40 minutes, I went from 15% to 80%. I had lunch while it charged.

Easy!

Tip: If you have a garage, install a home charger. That makes life way easier.

🧠 Cool Features I Loved

🧳 Mega Power Frunk (Front Trunk)

Since there’s no engine, the front of the truck is empty. Ford calls it the Mega Power Frunk. I stored my backpack, groceries, and even a cooler in there.

Bonus: There are charging ports inside the frunk. You can charge a laptop or even run tools!

🧲 Pro Power Onboard (It’s a Power Station!)

The Lightning has 11 outlets around the truck. You can power things like:

  • A fridge
  • A coffee maker
  • A TV
  • Tools on a job site

One day, we had a picnic and plugged in a speaker and fan. It felt like we brought a generator, but cooler.

📱 Smart Tech Everywhere

The 15.5-inch touchscreen was super helpful. Maps, weather, music—all easy to use. It also has wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, so my phone just connected automatically.

Also, the Ford app lets you:

  • Start the truck remotely
  • Check battery level
  • Find chargers nearby

😍 What I Really Liked

  • Instant power: So fun to drive!
  • No gas stations: I didn’t visit one all week.
  • Quiet ride: Very relaxing.
  • Massive storage: Back, front, inside—so much space.
  • Charging gadgets: I felt like I had a power bank on wheels.
  • Modern look: It turns heads, especially that light bar!

😕 What I Didn’t Like

Okay, nothing is perfect. Here’s what I didn’t love.

🧾 Price

The Ford F-150 Lightning is not cheap. The base model starts around $50,000, but the one I drove (Extended Range Lariat) costs around $70,000+.

It’s worth it—but still, not everyone can afford that.

🏙️ Big for the City

It’s a big truck. Great for highways or big roads. But in tight city spaces, parking was tricky. I had to be extra careful.

⚡ Charging Can Be Slow (Sometimes)

Fast chargers are great, but not always nearby. And home charging takes time. If you forget to plug in one night, you may feel stuck in the morning.

🌎 Real-Life Scenarios

1. Grocery Run

I filled the frunk with veggies and cold items. No engine = cooler space!

2. Helping a Friend Move

Used the big back space and power outlets to help run a drill and a vacuum. Felt like a work truck.

3. Picnic with Family

Used the outlets to charge phones, run a speaker, and a small fan. We had music, snacks, and smiles.

4. Daily Commute

Drive to work and back, no problem. Quiet, easy, and saved money on fuel.

🏁 Final Thoughts: Would I Buy It?

After using the Ford F-150 Lightning for one week, I can say this:

👉 It’s not just a truck.
👉 It’s not just an EV.
👉 It’s both—and better.

It’s fun to drive, useful for daily life, and full of modern features. If you love technology and need a strong, smart vehicle, this could be perfect.

But it’s still expensive. And charging needs planning. So, if you can afford it and have a place to charge it, I’d say go for it.

The Ford F-150 Lightning is not the future. It’s the present—and it’s awesome.
